Week 2 Practice – Season in full swing

With full swing practice we get into full contact with our tackle teams.

It is critically important that your players arrive on-time with all their equipment (INCLUDING MOUTH GUARD attached to helmet and fitted per manufacturers instructions), and PROTECTIVE CUP, as well as all other issued equipment and pads.

Players should also have a more-than-adequate supply of water every practice.

Registration Weekend and First Practice Monday August 3rd

The season is almost here, lets get off to a great start!

Registration / Signups are Saturday August 1st and Sunday the 2nd from 12pm – 3pm at Pleasant Valley field. Online registration is available at http://nsyfl.com. If you chose to pay offline during the online registration you may pay during the registration weekend, this fee will be deducted from your balance total. If you are unable to register online, this weekend is your opportunity to register, see the PV Giants home field, and talk to a coach.
What you will need for the first practice:
  • White shirt with players name and grade on the front and back (sharpie marker is fine).
  • Large insulated water jug, half-gallon size or larger (a clean gallon milk jug with water will work too).
  • Football cleats (Recommended as soon as possible)
  • Signed medical waiver
  • Any emergency medicines, inhalers, etc.
Items needed by the end of the first week or first day of the second week of practice:
  • Mouthpiece that will attach to face-mask, and not easy to remove (the flat type with a knob are recommended over the cable type). Please follow directions to mold the mouthpiece (avoid clear or white, referees must be able to see mouthpiece). Buy several now, and follow the instructions to mold to fit, put one on the helmet and one in a plastic bag for every vehicle you may drive this season.
  • Supporter and protective cup (please make sure the fit is correct before practice to avoid unnecessary discomfort. Have them run, squat, stretch, crawl, and dance around to make sure the fit is appropriate).
All other equipment will be distributed after the first week, and game uniforms before the first game.
Be sure to to hydrate by drinking 16-24 ounces of water during the day prior to practice. No heavy meals before practice, only light snacks. Eliminate the sugar and syrupy sodas and replace with water. Find out more about heat safety here. http://usafootball.com/health-safety/heat-preparedness
Becoming a football player may be the most physical and mentally challenging task your young person has ever wanted to take on.  Along with your continued encouragement, please ensure your players success by providing the mentioned essentials, and make sure they arrive on-time and prepared with their needed equipment for practice and games.

Weather Advisory – Hot Conditions

We share your concern about your players safety in extreme heat.

The League’s Board of Directors will be meeting this afternoon to discuss the heat and how each game at each field will be managed. We will follow with any updates on Facebook, Twitter and the team website, pvgiants.org.

To stay updated on urgent notices, please choose one or more of these methods:

  1. Text Message on mobile phones, text ‘follow PVGiants’ to 40404 (via twitter). Recommended
  2. Follow NSYFL-PV GIANTS on Facebook

The league follows the Missouri State High School Athletics Association rules and guidlines, and adapts for younger players. MSHSAA requires an official’s water break as close to the ½ mark of each quarter of each game the first 4 weeks of the season.

Be sure to to have players hydrate by drinking at least 16-24 ounces of water during the day prior to the game or practice. Cheerleaders, coaches, parents, siblings, grandparents and all attending are advised to drink plenty of water the day prior, bring adequate water to the game, dress in light colors and if available,  have a way to shade yourself from the sun.
