It is with a heavy and grieving heart we share that we have lost a member of our NSYFL/Northland Chiefs family. Coach Dave Graham passed away yesterday, Saturday October 11th in a unexpected tragedy. Dave has been a dedicated member of the Northland Chiefs coaching staff, starting with flag and moving up to the current defensive coach for 3rd and 4th. He was well respected and admired for his positive demeanor, both on and off the field, as well as, his fierce competitive nature on the sidelines. Above all else, Dave was an amazing husband and father to his wife and three children, please keep Katie, Nathan, Taylor and Parker in your thoughts and prayers.

We know many of you are saddened by this news as we are. He was a tremendous person who made such a positive impact and will missed greatly.

President Evokes Concussion Awareness, PV Giants start “flipping”.

Concussion awareness is at an all time high. All levels of football have new concern for player safety. President Obama’s pre NFL Championship address voiced concern for young players, prompting awareness at the youth football level.

“We coach proper techniques to reduce the risk of head injuries, and never sacrifice player safety.” said Pleasant Valley Giants Youth Football Coach, Ben Cardello. The reduction of head injuries begins in practice. Reducing the distance before contact and duration of full contact drills, while emphasizing a heads-up-tackling and other techniques are ways that teams are reducing potential head injuries in practice and game situations.

As the NFL introduces challenges equipment makers for new technology. At the youth level, teams are “flipping” to raise funds to cover the new equipment costs.
